Episodes

After years of renovating and building homes for our clients, it was finally time for us to tackle a project of our own. In our most personal project yet, we’ve taken a quirky 1980s brick home on the Mornington Peninsula and transformed it into the ultimate family home with our spin on a modern Hamptons style.

We’ve been our own clients in the past, but always renovated for sale. And whilst I’m not ready to subscribe to hashtag forever-home, this project has grown from a quick addition of two walls and move the kitchen a little, to a full gut renovation, extension and the creation of an incredible family home. We purchased the quirky 1980’s home with our logical, renovate for profit hats on. It was no ‘love at first sight’, it never is when purchasing a home to renovate, it’s a process of ticking all of the boxes (you can see all of our checklist boxes here {link to article}) and a really good imagination at what could be.

Somewhere in the two years of planning that imagination took on a life of its own, and soon we went from renovating to sell mode, to falling in love with our block and injecting a good dose of our personality along with a few bold choices into our much loved (for-now) family home.

The aim was to create a functional family home that felt effortless and understated. A home that encourages connection with spaces to bring everyone together without feeling on top of each other, making entertaining for two cozy or twenty feel spacious. A home that had a strong connection to the outdoors, to feel grounded and relaxed and ultimately reflect the nature of Mornington Peninsula living. I wanted a home that embodied the most relaxed version of coastal sophistication, a home that is unpretentious, understated and effortless.

In our most personal project yet, we thought we’d take you inside and share with you our family home renovation dubbed #dunnehomereno. And after months of hard work, more mess than I could have ever imagined, we’ve transformed this quirky 1980’s brick house into the ultimate family home. Here’s a peek at what it looks like!
