Episode Five: Outdoor Living Reveal

In episode five we’re pushing open the gas strut window, opening up the bifolds and revealing the alfresco area. The outdoor living space truly reflects the coastal lifestyle on the Mornington Peninsula. Blurring the lines between where the indoors ends and the outdoors begins we’ve created a space as cozy and comfortable outside as it is inside.

We really wanted a home that connected the indoors and outdoors seamlessly. And when it came to working with a relatively big backyard, we knew that we had to take the same approach as with an open plan living house and that’s how to create some zones. We knew that we had this space directly off the kitchen and lounge that we could zone just for entertaining and living. So we took a traditional 2 and 3 seater sofa design from Satara and they’ve created this L-shaped sofa, so the sofa’s really durable for outdoor living but the L shape allows you to maximise seating without taking up too much real estate on the deck. And then it left a huge expanse up the back which is just a free-for-all for the kids.

The outdoor living space is an absolute family favourite in the home. We love the way that it seamlessly connects from our kitchen and living and extends the footprint of the home. Because we went with a really light grey composite deck we’ve added some warmth to the space through the teak timber dining table and matching bench seat from Satara. We chose a combination of chairs and the bench seat which maximizes seating and is perfect for entertaining. We’ve then got this zoned space which has got some casual seating, more formal dining and this huge big L shaped sofa which is the perfect spot to relax by the pool. My favourite thing about the outdoor space is just how well it connects to the rest of the home. When we’ve got the windows and doors open you can move seamlessly between the two spaces and we all still feel like we’re in the same home and in the same space.
